Benefits
Transportation
The scholarship pays only for Walton Scholar air transportation from the student's home country to the university when school begins. This also includes air transportation costs to and from the student's country during summer vacations as well as a one-way ticket back home after graduation.
Students must bring receipts for all expenses incurred for travel. The program does not pay for student visas.
Tuition, room and board
The Walton International Scholarship Program is granted to undergraduate students seeking an undergraduate college degree. The scholarship covers tuition, semi-private dormitory accommodations and three meals per day at the school cafeteria. The program will not provide meals for any holidays or periods that the university cafeteria is closed.
Textbooks
As a Walton Scholar, students will also receive required textbooks. However, students will be responsible for personal school supplies such as notebooks, pens, backpacks, etc. Students are free to keep textbooks in their degree of study but general education textbooks will be returned to the Walton Office. Under no circumstances are students allowed to sell textbooks.
Insurance
The scholarship pays health insurance premiums to Walton Scholars, but students are responsible for a deductible in the event of illness or injury. The Walton International Scholarship Program secretary will assist students with questions about insurance and filing claims.
Monthly allowance
Every month during the fall and spring semesters, students receive a check in their name as a monthly allowance. This is meant to cover all personal expenses such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, notebooks, laundry and more. The personal allowance will be prorated for partial months at the beginning and ending of the school year. Students will receive additional funds at the beginning of the first semester for winter clothing and bedding. The monthly allowance will not be prorated for Thanksgiving, Christmas or Spring Break.
Professional club dues
The program will not pay club dues. We encourage students to be active in professional organizations, but paying club dues is the responsibility of each student.
